UPSL Announces Kansas Expansion with Sunflower State FC

Kansas City, KS based Club Joins Midwest Conference for 2021 Spring Season

September 4, 2020 – Los Angeles, CA – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Sunflower State Football Club as its newest Division I member.

Based in Kansas City, KS, Sunflower State FC will begin UPSL play in the 2021 Spring Season as part of the Midwest Conference South Division. The club is finalizing its home venue in compliance with UPSL National Division I standards.

UPSL Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "We're excited to welcome Sunflower State FC to the Midwest Conference. The Kansas City area is a strong market for soccer and Sunflower State FC has established itself as one of the better clubs. They are led by a strong and well-balanced ownership group and that is focused on sustainable growth. We wish them luck as they prepare for the 2021 Spring Season."

Sunflower State FC is operated by its board of directors. Joseph Lipoff and Andrew Lentell are the club's majority owners. Lipoff serves as President. Lentell is General Manager and Technical Director.

SSFC has a history of success in various adult leagues in the Kansas City area and will participate in qualifying for the 2021 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The club was a semifinalist in the Heartland Super Cup after winning the tournament's Kansas City region. In addition, they are creating an indoor team to compete in MASL3.

Charles Salazar, Evan Johnson, Bryan Clark, Clayton Mordecai, Jack Hellebusch and Cesar Tovar are all minority owners.

Sunflower State FC is an American Soccer club currently based in Kansas City, KS, and a new member of the United Premier Soccer League. Sunflower State FC will play in the UPSL's Midwest Conference.

Sunflower State FC can participate in the qualifying rounds for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup through their affiliation and membership with the UPSL, the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).

United Premier Soccer League

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 300 teams nationwide. The UPSL is the largest Pro Development League in North America. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated.

UPSL teams are eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the league's affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
